About Akagami Gosha shrines

The Akagami Shrine is the shrine in Oga City, Akita Prefecture, Japan.  It has five shrine architectures, so it is called Gosha-Do/ Five shrines in common.
To reach there, we have to go up 999 stone steps.
There is a folklore of 999 stone steps.   It is said:
In AD72 or AD 80, Emperor Wu of Han called Akagami descended from heaven.
Then, God was with Ogres.  They did violence to villagers.   To stop their violence, villagers offered
“If you build one thousand stone steps in one night, we will give you a young maiden.   If you can’t do it, you have to go back to the mountain.”
Ogres acceded the offer.  Then they began building the stone steps.   At 999 steps, a villager imitated a cock-crowing to stop Ogres making 1000 stone steps and their violence.
It is said Ogres became called the Namahage later.
