My favorite tanka ...Void Flower / 空木

<Tanka / 短歌>

花群れの空木の花にうづもれてわが葬儀とし空に消えたし

my funeral --

hope to be

buried in

flower clusters of void

...fading into thin air...

※In this tanka, 'void' is 'deuztia', which is called 'Utsugi 空木' in Japanese. When 'Utsugi' is translated literally into English, it is 'Void Tree' or 'Empty Tree'. So I used 'void' as 'deutzia'.

こちらの短歌はイギリスのインターナショナルな文芸、アート誌のCQ Magazine August 2016に掲載された一首です。

"Warmed by the Sun,
and washed by the Rain" was
my chosen Epitaph,
and then I realized that
I was just "feeling sorry for myself"!
